GRid stabilty solutions

Synchronous Condensers

Synchronous condensers support grid stability through inertia, reactive power compensation and short circuit power capacity.

Overview

As a result of the global drive towards Net Zero, renewable power generation is becoming ever more important for the world’s energy systems. Very significant capacity of solar and wind power has been added to the grid and a growing number of conventional power generation plants are retiring well before the end of their technical life.

Renewable power generation is essential for our planet’s future power supply. Unfortunately, it can adversely impact the resilience and stability of today’s grids as it misses critical components required for grid quality and reliability.

A key missing element is rotational inertia, which provides a useful amount of stored energy to help keep the frequency of the power system stable. Other important factors are reactive power and fault ride through capability.

Synchronous condensers support grid stability through inertia, reactive power compensation and short circuit power capacity. They offer significant cost savings by avoiding the need to invest in costly infrastructure reinforcements such as new transmission lines that would be otherwise required to address the adverse effects of renewable power generation on grid stability.

BRUSH’s Synchronous Condenser applications are based on our DAX and DG ranges of generators with over a century of engineering experience, knowledge and innovation embedded in the design.

4 Pole Air Cooled Generators

Built upon 145 years of generator expertise, BRUSH offer customers bespoke turnkey products engineered to perform, built to last and offered with comprehensive lifetime Service support.

Overview

The 4-Pole DG generator range is designed to be driven by gas or steam turbines with outputs from 10 to 75 MVA.

With over 750 active installations, the time-proven DG range built in a European ISO accredited site are specified by leading geothermal, public utility, co-generation (CHP), industrial and offshore applications operators.

Manufactured from a one-piece forging of high-quality alloy steel, providing a minimum of 25 years’ service life, these units are based on a modular construction method that can be easily adapted to meet any turbine design. Units are factory tested, to reduce on-site testing and commissioning time.

The continued success in both gas turbine and steam turbine power generation can be attributed to BRUSH’s ability to meet the demanding interface requirements of turbine manufacturers, coupled with competitive prices and keen deliveries.

Mobile & Trailer Mounted Generators

BRUSH has an outstanding history of producing low weight, minimal footprint trailer mounted generators. These generators are truly mobile and are operated across some of the harshest environments and most remote parts of the globe.

Overview

The BRUSH mobile & trailer generator range offers units with a world-leading power-to-weight ratio of over 1MVA per 1,000kg, operating in harsh conditions around the globe.

With over 500 trailer generators delivered, the time-proven DAX range, built in a European ISO accredited facility, is specified by leading industrialists, EPCs and facility operators.

Typically driven by aero-derivative gas turbines, the output from these trailer mounted units has increased through continual product development and innovation from 25MVA to 64MVA.

BRUSH’s engineering team are recognised experts in providing optimised generator selections to meet customers’ unique operating conditions.
